We went to a very old church today. It was built in the early 1600s. The church is in the heart of Amsterdam but you would never guess it. You go through a small door leading to a beautiful, secluded courtyard where the church is located. The courtyard and church area called the Begijhnof. Interestingly the courtyard is created by a circle of houses but only women live there. The service was more traditional though they did have women office bearers. They are part of the Scottish reformed Church (or maybe were founded by them) which is really a Presbyterian Church, they are also part of the Netherlands Reformed and Protestant denominations. Their Bibles are an Anglican version and their hymnals are purple with a stamp inside saying Ecclesiastical Anglican. Antony was explaining that denominations all seem to blend together here and I guess this is proof.
Aunt Jean took some pictures but I can't seem to get them onto here so I guess if you want to see the church you'll have to Google it.
