How is it March already!? I've been Down Under a whole year already which is just crazy. It's been a hectic couple of weeks for me as I've joined Team Rubicon Australia to help out with the flood cleanup in Townsville. We were hit by a once in a century monsoon and most of Townsville got flooded. So that's what I've been busy doing! And I quit my job working at the cafe; can't say I'm sorry to leave.

I've really found a niche in Team Rubicon, its full of people who share my work ethic and enjoy helping others who are in real need. Quite a neat organization, started by two US Marines after the earthquakes in Haiti. They saw that the aid given by local city councils, emergency workers, and large aid groups like the Red Cross left a gap in disaster relief that veterans were uniquely capable of filling. Since then it has grown to include emergency workers and "kick a** civilians" and become a global organization. We've had people from all over Australia fly up here and even had some Canadians fly out this past week! And because we had the Canadians we took a little field trip to Billabong Wildlife Sanctuary.

There's a bunch of kangaroos who will eat from your hand and take selfies haha

Theres a whole bunch of big ol' crocodiles

 Komodo dragon

Brown snake, this is the only one I'm really scared of in Australia

 Koalas :)

Look at the claws on the kangaroos!

Hundreds of turtles would pop their heads up whenever you walked close to the water

There's these crazy birds called Cassowarys, like that one bird from the movie Up, didn't get a very good picture of them though, sorry

Emu with a slightly deformed beak

I think these are called bilbies, but I know they are cute!

See the big croc? I was walking along this fence trying to work out if this was just a mucky old empty creek or not and this massive crocodile eerily swims up and stopped on the shore here.

Dingoes, they're cute but I still don't like them after being on the cattle station

Hahaha, I have a story about this big guy but I'm going to ask my lovely mother to not read it because she'll worry.
So, this real big crocodile had been lying next to the fence, just chilling in the shade, not moving at all. The Canadians were all there checking him out taking pictures and selfies and everything and the croc just stayed still as a statue. Then when they turned to leave, he lunged straight at them, grabbed a big tree in his massive jaws and tore a chunk out of it. There were men in that group but by their screams you would have thought it was a group of teenage girls. You can see he still has a chunk of the tree in his mouth in the picture.

This is our group of greyshirts from this past week, the next wave are flying in today so we'll see if we can finish up the flood cleanup this week!
