This past week has been a little irregular so I only worked 3 days which means I've been able to do some local sight-seeing!

BORENORE KARST CAVES

Hiked for an hour with no reception, got to this sign and had 1 bar! Haha this place is very much in the middle of nowhere. Afraid the pictures inside the caves didn't come out very well, guess I'll just have to go back!

MT. CANOBOLIS
Afraid I wasn't able to do any hiking here, they had had a bushfire across the whole mountain recently

WYANGALA DAM

There were lots of kangaroos here, yay!

You can see how low it is right now, though it has been lower, there's still a few submerged trees along the shoreline

The dam is built between hills covered in giant boulders, looks kinda like a scene from Lord of the Rings in places!

Well, I think I have done every job on the "herd team" and "young stock team" now! This past week I was able to work a couple days in the baby barns where they raise the calves from birth to around 2 weeks of age. All bottle feeding in individual stalls; right now there are a little over 200 calves with around 20 calves being born each day! Then they get moved to the auto-feeder barns until they are weaned. After that they are moved to the weaner barns until they are about 6 months old when the bull calves get sold and the heifers are moved to paddocks. Working in the paddocks is quite fun since rounding up the heifers is done on dirt bikes! Though trying to catch one individual heifer with just a "ute" (the Australian term for a pickup truck), a dirt bike, and broken fences is not so fun. There the heifers are bred and moved back onto the dairy into the dry cow pens, and the cycle starts all over again in maternity!
So that is the story of the young stock team; herd team covers maternity, hoof trimming, sheds (moving animals around), health, and repro. It's enough to keep you busy!

I've had much more success in terms of kangaroo hunting! Photos taken at Mt. Nangar national park.

See the car at the bottom of the cliff? Glad it's not mine!
